Nelson's new book,
My Favorite Movie Star: A journey from fan to friend

"My Favorite Movie Star: A journey from fan to friend" is the sentimental, sometimes scandalous true tale of a lifelong fan's devotion to his film idol and how their relationship evolved into one of Hollywood's greatest platonic love stories.
Award-winning broadcast journalist and author Nelson Aspen fell in love with the ravishing big screen image of actress Carol Lynley when he was only 9 years old, entranced by the 1972 disaster blockbuster "The Poseidon Adventure." Aided by his father's dogged determination and ingenuity, they eventually orchestrated for teen Nelson to have a date with the glamorous star, launching an intimate 40+ year friendship that stretched from Manhattan to Tinseltown lasting until her death in 2019.
With humor and insight, Nelson recounts the intimate details of their long personal and professional connection, dropping scores of famous names from Film & TV history along the way.
"An intimate, personal love letter and memoir, “My Favorite Movie Star” is beautifully written insight into Nelson’s enduring friendship with a Hollywood star. A warm, loving tribute to remind us that even the icons we adore are real people."
Melissa Doyle, Journalist & Producer
"For a few years back in the 1960s gorgeous, blonde Carol Lynley was Hollywood’s It Girl. One of her biggest fans, teenaged Nelson Aspen, figured out how to score a lunch date with her and thus began a decades long friendship that captured the young man’s heart. Aspen tells their story with his usual verve, wit and rapid-paced story telling. Read this."
Robert Dance, Author “Ferocious Ambition: Joan Crawford’s March to Stardom”
"Nelson Aspen’s friends range from the grand, can't-walk-down-the-street-without-being-recognized stars to the not quite as well known but often far more interesting members of the show-biz family. Carol Lynley, over the course of her career, resided in both camps with equal ease. Nelson, friend, confidant and mentee, has done her the great favor of revealing the soul behind the stunning face...a spirit we all should have been so lucky to know."
